Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers have been an integral part of ALC since our beginnings. Volunteers not only bring a level of support that ALC needs to function, but learn throughout their experiences with us.

Take a look some of our upcoming events where we need volunteer help. Also take a look at some of our past events to get an idea of the sorts of activities volunteers have helped us with in the past.

Instructional Mentoring
Volunteer mentors work either individually with a student in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), GED or Citizenship or in classrooms working with one of ALC's instructors. Mentors are trained, certified and supported by ALC's professional staff and materials. Once trained, a mentor is asked to volunteer three hours a week for at least six months. Individual mentoring sessions are held at times and locations mutually convenient for the student and mentors.

Volunteers should be dependable and prompt, interested in others and able to relate to them, respectful of confidentiality, literate (professional training not necessary), flexible, friendly, patient, and optimistic. A sense of humor is also helpful. If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor, contact Patricia Cooper, ABE/GED Instructor and Mentor Trainer, at (610) 435-0680, Ext. 115, or at [email protected]. You may also call Chris Leiby at (610) 435-0680, Ext. 117, and email him at [email protected].

ALC's Offices
Volunteers assist with filing, data entry, stuffing envelopes, and other projects. If you are interested, please contact Linda V., McCrossan, Ed.D., ALC Executive Director, at 610-435-0680, or at Email: [email protected].
